2. On my PC, I've
installed the driver and although my keyboard works, I can't get the
jog/shuttle to work properly - do I have a bad keyboard and if not how
can I get it working?
- To
check to see if the jog/shuttle is working, open the JSM Settings
application and turn the jog wheel left and right - what you do on the
keyboard should be mimicked in our interface. If nothing happens in the
interface, the driver was most likely not installed properly.
- Next,
make sure that the JSM Settings application was installed to the hard
disk where the Windows OS resides. If it is not on the Windows OS
drive, reinstall to that drive during the installation process.
- Finally,
make sure that you are installing and testing our application under the
username and password that all applications were originally installed
under. You should do the installation as the Administrator or as
someone with Administrative rights.

3. I'm trying to install the
Layout.exe for Premiere Pro (or Layout2.exe for Premiere Pro 2.0) and
get an error stating that it can't find the installation of Premiere
Pro, however I have Premiere Pro installed and working.
Our
Layout.exe installer looks for Premiere Pro to be installed on your "C"
drive - if it is installed on another drive letter, you will need to
manually install the layout setting file.
- Make
sure Premiere Pro is not running.
- Navigate
to the following directory on the drive Premiere Pro is installed:
\Documents and Settings\<Your_User_Name> (this is the
name that you log onto your computer as).
- In
this directory, you should see a folder called “Application Data.” This
is a hidden folder, so if you don’t see it, simply click on Tools on
the menu bar, then on “Folder Options.” Click on the “View” tab and
under “Hidden Files and Folders” click on “Show Hidden Files and
Folders.” You should now see the “Application Data” folder.
- Continue
navigating to the following folder: C:\Documents and
Settings\<Your_User_Name> \Application
Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\1.5 (the 1.5 is the version number of Premiere
Pro: depending on your version, the number could be different. For
Premiere Pro 2.0 this folder will be called 2.0. Also note that the
first release of Premiere Pro was labeled as version 7.0)
- Go to
the Settings
page on our website. Click the link for "Need the Premiere
Pro Keyboard Layout? Go to the bottom of this page - Click here." This
will take you to the bottom of the page where you will see links to the
download files for your Premiere Pro layout. Choose the one appropriate
for your version of Premiere Pro (For Premiere Pro and Premiere Pro 1.5
choose the first option; for Premiere Pro 2.0 and beyond, choose the
second option.) Once you have downloaded the file to a location you can
easily find, go to that folder and double-click on the file. Follow the
on-screen instructions.
- Re-launch
Premiere Pro, go into the Keyboard Settings, and select the Bella
Hardware Layout preset.

Do I need to start the JSM Settings application every time I want to
use the jog/shuttle or multimedia keys?
No, if the software has been installed properly, the application will
start when you turn on the computer and will run in the background
without you having to do anything. The only time that you would need to
go into the JSM Settings would be to customize a preset or create a new
preset.

5. My keyboard
has been working fine on my PC but I just upgraded to a new version of
my NLE software and now my jog/shuttle doesn't work - what can I do?
First,
check our Settings
page to see if there is a newer setting available. If there
isn't, most likely the setting you had been using will work in your new
version of the NLE software but the application name has changed (for
example from Vegas7.exe to Vegas8.exe). To remedy this follow these
steps:
- Launch
the JSM Settings application.
- Change
the Target Application to your "old" NLE application (for example
Vegas).
- From
the File menu, select Change Target Application.
- You
will get a window for you to select the new application that is
associated with your NLE program. Navigate to the folder that has the
executable file, such as Vegas8.exe, and select the file.
- Click
OK to close and save the JSM Settings application.

The "Alt" and "Windows" keys to the left of the spacebar are not where
I am used to them on my DV Keyboard or Professional Series keyboard -
is there a way to change this?
We have had this request from a number of users and do have a way for
you to change the keys to the way you may prefer to have them arranged.
Disclaimer:
As this involves a change to your system registry, Bella Corporation
can not support this modification and can not be held responsible for
any issues that may result from the software. Additionally, any damage
to the keyboard or keycaps as a result of the following instructions is
the sole responsibility of the owner and is not covered under our
warranty.
There
is a registry file that will allow you to swap the Alt and Windows
keys. The file is located here:
Swap-Alt-Win-Keys.zip. Once you have downloaded the file,
double click on it, agree to the following question about changing your
registry, then press okay. Next, restart your computer and the keys
will be swapped. If you are swapping the Alt and Windows keys to the
left of the spacebar, you can actually swap the key caps - simply use a
thin metal object (a small screwdriver should work) to pry the keycaps
off, then snap the keys into the new position and you are done! Special thanks to Timothy Duncan for providing
this registry file.
This
registry file,
After-Effects-Swap.zip, provides a key change which may be
particularly helpful for After Effects users. This keychange will swap
the
Right Control and the App key. Once you run this file, you can pry off
and swap the Right Control and App keys as described above.
Special thanks to Neil Bastin for providing this registry file.
If you would like to
reverse either of these changes, please use this registry file:
Pre-Key-Change.zip, then restart the computer and manually
switch the keycaps back to their original position. Special thanks to
Timothy Duncan for providing this registry file.

I tried to install the
driver for my keyboard and got the message that the driver is out of
date. I then tried to un-install the driver and I got another error
saying the program or file was missing. What can I do?
You have installed a driver from our old installation CD. Navigate to
the folder that contains the DV driver - it should be c:\Program
Files\DVKeyboard. Select the DVKeyboard folder and delete it. Download
and install the latest driver from our website.

8. When I go
into the JSM Settings application, the Applications window always
highlights "Global Settings" rather than the application I am in. Why
isn't my application highlighted in the window?
The Applications window is not an indication of the currently running
application. "Global Settings" is shown by default whenever the JSM
Settings application is opened.
To edit the preset for a particular application, select that
application in the Applications window. The JSM Settings presets are application
specific, meaning that as you switch from one application to
another it will automatically load the presets for that application. If
there is no preset created for an application then the Global Settings
will become the active setting.

The multimedia keys on my DV or Pro Series keyboard have buttons for
Play/Pause, Stop, Rewind, and Fast Forward, but when I push these
buttons my audio software opens. Can I make these keys control my
editing software?
These keys can be setup to control a variety of functions including
keystroke emulation while using specific applications. This can be
achieved by opening the JSM Settings application, and selecting the
appropriate program from the Applications window on the left side of
the interface. Then click on the Multimedia Keys tab and push the
Play/Pause Multimedia button on the keyboard. On the right side of the
interface you will see several options. Select "Keystroke" and enter
the corresponding keystroke you would like to use for that button in
your editing software. Repeat this for each of the "playback"
Multimedia Keys. Once you are finished click on Apply, then OK.

I have purchased a DV Keyboard for Audio Editing but when I use the Jog
and Shuttle I don’t hear any sound during timeline navigation, is
something wrong with my keyboard?
No,
the keyboard is working properly. The scrub function is determined by
the audio editing software manufacturer and most audio based programs
have not included an analog scrub feature. Some of the audio software
(Soundforge 6.0 etc) have a digital scrub feature but this is a very
rough scrub that can sound like a CD skipping. The settings that are
written for your audio software are written to the best functioning
ability, but updated settings may be available on our website (here).

I have purchased a keyboard and I did not receive a User Guide or
manual in the box, where can I get one?
The
User Guide is included with the driver you’ve downloaded from our
website (here).
The file is a Portable Document File (pdf) and will require that you
have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer, if you don’t have
Acrobat you can download it from the Adobe web site: www.Adobe.com/Acrobat . Our
user guide can be accessed from the Help drop down menu at the top of
the JSM Settings interface window. Once you open the manual you can
print it or view it on your computer.

I installed the driver from
the factory CD. After installation, I double-clicked on the icon on the
tool bar and nothing happened. I then tried to uninstall the software
and I received an error. What do I do?
You have installed a
driver from our old installation CD. Simply right-click on the DV
Keyboard icon on the tool bar and select "Exit." Next, locate the
DVKeyboard application folder - the default location is c:\Program
Files\DVKeyboard. Go to c:\Program Files\ (or the equivalent on your
computer), right-click on the DVKeyboard folder and select "Delete."
Download the latest driver from our website (here),
and follow the instructions.

13. How do I change a
setting to work with an earlier version of my NLE software?
In order to change the
Target Application for a setting, first make sure the proper setting is
highlighted in the Applications window in your JSM Settings program.
From the 'File' menu choose "Change Target Application". This will open
a window into your "Program Files" folder. Navigate to the folder that
contains the application you want to change the setting to, find that
application's EXE file, and click on it then click 'Open'. This setting
will now work when the chosen application is running in the foreground.
